Rumors of new 'devices' from Infinite Loop, just in time for MWNY:
New information is also becoming available through the grapevine about Apple's next Digital Lifestyle device. There are at least five different such projects underway at Apple right now, up to three of which could ship this summer, so there's plenty of uncertainty to go around....but the grapevine's choice for device-on-deck is a home digital video theatre.
PowerPage sources have spotted a number of small handheld devices in and around Apple's Cupertino campus. The devices have been field tested by various staff members over the past few months. It is important to realize that these aren't simply re-badged Palms or Palms with silly clear enclosures - they are real Apple iron.

Ink!
I think (&hope) that Apple is actually putting this in motion and will put out a PDA for us Appliophiles. Better yet expand iPod into a PDA. I think the fact that they've come up with "INK" (an advanced handwriting recognition software for Jaguar) is a decent indicator that they could put the technology into the OS of a PDA. I mean, really, I can't believe they would really care about creating this for a few graphic artists with Wacom tablets. This technology should be for the masses and the Everyday Joe's.

From the Apple site:
Ink
Jaguar features advanced handwriting recognition. Graphics professionals will appreciate the ability to input text via stylus instead of switching to the keyboard. You can write directly in Mail messages and TextEdit documents, or use the InkPad to write text and draw sketches before sending them to your favorite applications. Ink requires an input tablet.
Re: More Device Rumors
I seriously doubt apple will be unveiling a pda. Apple said in 98 that they will not be going back into the pda market when they discontinued the newton.
Palm and other pda companies are loosing lots of money currently due to poor sales.
Whatever handheld devices the powerpage sources are seeing, it isn't a pda.
Re: Ink!
i really don't see apple geared toward the "Everyday Joes", sure, it is too easy, but when you think about it most computer users want a little bit of a challenge in getting to know their OS, it gives them a goal- this could be why GNU/Linux OSes are on the rise. I feel that Apple is really for a certain niche, and it doesn't seem like those people would be your average dot com layoff woth the latest wimdows pda and or cell phone. from what ive seen, apple users are generally into the more creative side of computing, the music people, the hardcore photoshoppers, and the video freaks. and i think it would be a wise choice to continue this way because if they start competeing with MS they will never win. as computing evolves and grows into more specialized areas, computer users wont just fit into one big lump, it will be in various niches. i think apple has it going very good for the future with this approach
